      🖼 Kalachnaya Museum

      Коломна, ул. Зайцева, 14

A museum-bakery in a stone mansion of the mid-19th century: it tells the story of the Kolomna kalach (a traditional bun) and bakes it in an old kalach oven.

      • Kalachnaya is part of the same "City-Museum" cluster as the Kolomna pastila museum.
      • Kalachi are baked in a two-hearth oven restored from old drawings.
      • The oven is fired with bark-free birch wood, which makes the kalachi whiter.
      • The dough is shaped on an ice table: the cold keeps the gas in it, so the kalach comes out fluffy.
      • Kalach bakers were a separate guild: ordinary bakers did not bake kalachi.
