        • The palace was built for Prince Menshikov in 1710–1725; in scale the residence then surpassed Peterhof.
        • The palace church was consecrated on 3 September 1727, and five days later Menshikov was arrested and all his property confiscated.
        • From 1743 Oranienbaum was the residence of Grand Duke Pyotr Fyodorovich, the future Peter III.
        • The sea canal that linked the palace with the Gulf of Finland survives to this day.
        • Unlike the other suburbs, Oranienbaum was not ravaged in the war, but the palace was handed over to the museum only in 1995.

        • The Upper Park covers 162 ha; it combines formal and landscape layouts.
        • In 1746, behind the Karpin Pond, a “toy” fortress was built with a moat, a palisade and ramparts that had no military purpose.
        • In 1756–1757 the military town of Peterstadt grew up in the park, where Rinaldi built a palace for Pyotr Fyodorovich.
        • In 1873 the park had 30 bridges — 8 stone and 22 wooden.
        • After the war the park was opened to visitors on 9 June 1946.

        • The palace was built to a design by Antonio Rinaldi in 1757–1768 for Catherine II — the centre of her Own Dacha.
        • The most famous room is the Glass Bead Cabinet: its twelve panels of the 1760s were embroidered by nine Russian needlewomen.
        • The glass beads for the panels were made at Lomonosov's factory in Ust-Rudits near Oranienbaum.
        • The palace became a museum in 1922 — the only building in Oranienbaum to do so before the war.
        • In 1852–1853 Stackenschneider and Bonstedt added a second storey over the south facade.

        • The hill was built in 1762–1774 to Rinaldi's design; it was long attributed to Rastrelli until this was refuted in the early 20th century.
        • A 532-metre wooden slope with four hills adjoined the 34-metre pavilion, and people rode down it in shaped carriages.
        • Riding stopped in 1801 because of dilapidation, in 1813 the slope's colonnades collapsed, and in 1858–1861 they were dismantled.
        • The Porcelain Cabinet held 40 Meissen groups of 1772–1775 about Catherine II's power over the seas and the victory at Chesme.
        • The pavilion's postwar restoration ran in 1951–1958.

        • The 15-ha garden was laid out under Peter I, and at first vegetables were grown in it — it served as a kitchen garden.
        • The first plan of the garden, whose basis survives, was drawn up in 1716 with the participation of the architect Braunstein.
        • The garden was made ceremonial by the fountains of 1733–1739; the first was the “Oak” (1734), with a lead oak in the centre.
        • The “Mezheumny” (“Undecided”) fountain is so named because its sculptures were changed many times; now it has a winged dragon.
        • During the 2020–2024 restoration almost 90% of the trees were replaced: 7,200 of 8,400 were brought from European nurseries.

        • The cascade was conceived as a triumphal monument to the victory in the Great Northern War; its facade is over 40 m long.
        • Construction of the cascade began in spring 1715, and it was launched in August 1723, before the works were finished.
        • The group “Samson Tearing Open the Lion's Jaws” has stood in the basin since 1735; it is thought to allude to Poltava, won on St Samson's day.
        • The original “Samson” of 1801 by Kozlovsky was lost in the war; the statue was recreated in 1947 by Simonov and Mikhailov.
        • The cascade is decorated with 37 gilded bronze statues; their restoration ran from 2010 to April 2012.

        • The park of about 102 ha stretches 2.5 km along the gulf and is only about 500 m wide.
        • The layout was drawn by Braunstein in 1710–1711, and in 1717 Le Blond presented the “Water Plan” of the fountains.
        • The “Divanchiki” (Little Sofas) trick fountain of 1721–1723 is the oldest of Peterhof's trick fountains.
        • The marble colonnades of 1800–1803 earned the former serf Andrey Voronikhin the title of architect.
        • The “Roman Fountains” appeared in 1739 and were wooden, with lead-lined basins.
