        • The cathedral was built in 1802–1814 to a design by the Moscow architect Alexey Bakarev, a pupil of Matvey Kazakov.
        • The new cathedral was built into the old fortress St Nicholas Gate with a gate church, and stone from the dismantled kremlin was used for construction.
        • In 1812 the French burned the iconostases of the unfinished cathedral, but the icon of St Nicholas of Mozhaysk, hidden in the cellars, survived.
        • The cast-iron fence at the slope, visible in Prokudin-Gorsky's 1911 photograph, was torn down in 1932.
        • The rotunda over the cathedral's centre was destroyed in the fighting of 1941–1942 and has never been rebuilt.
        • After the restoration of the 1960s a knitwear factory worked in the cathedral, and services returned only in 1994.
        • On 25 January 1942 a mass grave of Soviet soldiers was made on the western edge of Sobornaya Hill.

        • It is the oldest of the battlefield museums; the first “Museum of 1812” was set up in 1903 by staff of Borodino station in a room of the station building.
        • For the battle's centenary in 1912, regiments and divisions put up monuments to their ancestors on the field with their own money.
        • In October 1941 Colonel Viktor Polosukhin's 32nd Division held the defence on the field for six days.
        • The Germans turned the museum building into a slaughterhouse and burned it when retreating; the exhibits had been evacuated to Alma-Ata in time.
        • The museum reopened in the rebuilt building on 15 October 1944.
        • The Borodino Field was declared a museum-reserve on 31 May 1961; today it has about 300 memorial sites.
        • The monument to the dead of the Grande Armée was unveiled in 1912 with the participation of a French military delegation.

        • The monument was designed by Antonio Adamini, built by Fyodor Shestakov and unveiled on 26 August 1839 in the presence of Nicholas I.
        • The cast-iron octagonal chapel-column with a cross rises 27.5 metres.
        • The faces carry a short chronicle of the battle: the forces of both sides, the losses and the words “They retreated with honour in order to win”.
        • For the unveiling Bagration's remains were moved here from the village of Sima in Vladimir Governorate, where he died of his wounds on 12 September 1812.
        • In 1932 the monument was destroyed as “having neither historical nor artistic value”, and Bagration's crypt suffered too.
        • The monument and Bagration's tombstone were recreated in their former form in 1987.

        • On the eve of the battle the Russian army's left flank rested on just three unfinished fleches (arrow-shaped earthworks).
        • In the morning the fleches were defended by General Mikhail Vorontsov's 2nd Combined Grenadier Division.
        • During one of the counterattacks, Marshal Murat nearly fell into the hands of Russian cuirassiers.
        • For the decisive attack Napoleon massed around 45,000 infantry and cavalry and almost 400 guns at the fleches.
        • After Bagration was wounded, Konovnitsyn took command and withdrew the troops behind the Semyonovsky ravine.
        • In 1912 monuments to four divisions and a separate monument to the sappers were put up at the fleches.

        • In 1817 Margarita Tuchkova bought three desyatinas of land at the middle fleches; Alexander I gave half of the sum.
        • The convent's first church, of the Saviour Not Made by Hands, was consecrated on 26 August 1820, on the eighth anniversary of the battle.
        • Tuchkova freed all the serfs on her Tula estate, and in 1840 became the convent's first abbess, Maria.
        • The Vladimir Cathedral was built in 1851–1859 to a design by the architect Mikhail Bykovsky.
        • On 25 August 1912 Nicholas II visited the convent with his family.
        • The convent was closed in 1929, and the village of Voroshilovo appeared on maps in its place.
        • Traces of a 1930s slogan, “Enough of preserving the legacy of the slave past”, are still visible on a wall.
        • Tuchkova's little house, burned down in 1942, was rebuilt in 1994.
