      The city’s main square: the city hall with its spire and clock, a Lenin monument and old paving stones. Under the square is a metro station.

      • The square took shape in 1930, when the Epiphany Cathedral was demolished and two squares — Cathedral Square and the Main Market Square — were joined.
      • In the 18th century there was trading here, so it was first called Market Square.
      • The square was paved back in the 19th century.
      • Locals simply call it “the square of the fifth year”.
