        • The cruiser was launched at the New Admiralty on 11 (24) May 1900 in the presence of Nicholas II.
        • She is named after the sailing frigate ‘Aurora’, which defended Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in the Crimean War.
        • At the Battle of Tsushima in 1905 the Aurora took 18 hits from Japanese shells, but survived.
        • A blank shot from the Aurora in autumn 1917 became the signal for the storming of the Winter Palace.
        • In 1941 nine 130-mm guns were taken off the cruiser for Battery ‘A’, which defended Leningrad at Duderhof.
        • The cruiser took up her permanent berth on 17 November 1948; naval cadets then lived and studied aboard.
        • During the 1984–1987 repair almost the whole underwater part of the hull was replaced.

        • On 9 August 1917 the driver Hugo Jalava took Lenin into the cab at Udelnaya station disguised as a stoker.
        • At Beloostrov, while the gendarmes checked passports, Jalava uncoupled the locomotive "to take on water" and returned by the third bell.
        • In 1924 the locomotive passed to Finland, and on 13 June 1957 the Finnish government gave it to the USSR.
        • The locomotive has stood by the station platform since 22 April 1961, and the glass pavilion was built by 1964.
        • Finlyandsky Station was the only one working during the Siege: on 7 February 1943 the first train from the "mainland" arrived here.

        • The first church was built in 1743–1754 in memory of the Preobrazhensky Regiment placing Elizabeth Petrovna on the throne.
        • In 1796 Paul I gave the cathedral the honorary title of “cathedral of the whole Guards”.
        • In August 1825 the cathedral burned down, and Vasily Stasov rebuilt it in the Empire style by 1829.
        • The fence of 1832–1833 was assembled from 102 barrels of captured Turkish cannons, set muzzle-down.
        • The fence barrels still bear the Turkish names of the guns — for example, “Wrath of Allah” and “I Give Only Death”.
        • The cathedral was never closed for services, even in Soviet times.
        • On the feast of the Transfiguration, the Apple Saviour, a fruit market used to be held by the church.

        • The garden was laid out in 1783–1800 by the English gardener William Gould at Prince Potemkin's Tauride Palace.
        • The ponds were filled with water from the Ligovsky Canal and stocked with sterlet, and the soil dug out was piled into hills.
        • The garden opened to the public only in 1866.
        • From 1958 it was the City Children's Park; the historic name was restored in 1975.
        • In Chukovsky's “Moydodyr”, it is in the Tauride Garden that the washcloth chases the hero and he meets the Crocodile.
        • The garden has monuments to Tchaikovsky (1990) and Yesenin (1995).

        • The cathedral was founded on 30 October 1748: Elizabeth Petrovna wanted to end her days in a convent on the site of the palace of her childhood.
        • Because of the Seven Years' War money ran out, and under Elizabeth Rastrelli's cathedral was left unfinished as a bare shell.
        • The cathedral was completed by Vasily Stasov and consecrated on 20 July 1835.
        • Rastrelli built the cathedral ‘cold’, and Stasov had to struggle to cut flues for stoves in the walls.
        • The cathedral is 93.7 metres high.
        • The giant bell tower Rastrelli had planned was raised only a few metres and then dismantled.
        • From 1990 to 2015 the cathedral served as a classical music concert hall.

        • The bridge was laid down on 26 June (9 July) 1909, on the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Poltava, and named the Emperor Peter the Great Bridge.
        • Construction was sped up by the sinking of the steamer Arkhangelsk at the Okhta ferry on 7 April 1907 — 39 people died.
        • The design is by Grigory Krivoshein; the bridge opened on 26 October (8 November) 1911.
        • The spans, weighing 3,660 tonnes each, were delivered on the hulls of old ironclads converted into pontoons.
        • It was the first bridge across the Neva in Petersburg with a lower roadway and a lifting span in the middle of the river.
        • The towers on the piers are 36 metres tall; in 2011, for the 100th anniversary, visitors were let into the left-bank tower for the first time.
