      🌳 Dyuny (Dunes) Beach

      Санкт-Петербург, Сестрорецк (Курорт), Приморское ш., ост. «Дюны»

Sand dunes with pines on the gulf shore — one of the most picturesque spots on the coast.

      • The dunes on the Sestroretsk shore began to form more than 5,000 years ago, as the Littorina Sea retreated.
      • The beach lies at the mouth of the northern arm of the Malaya Sestra river.
      • Until 1940 this shore belonged to Finland, and the area received the name "Dyuny" in 1948.
      • In 1986 two old granite border posts with crosses were dug up here; in 2014 they were moved to the Sestroretsk Frontier museum.
      • From the 1960s until the mid-2010s the Dunes were known as a nudist beach.
