      🌳 Dubki Park

      Санкт-Петербург, Сестрорецк, парк «Дубки»

Peter's oak grove on a headland by the gulf: oaks planted by Peter I and the remains of his palace survive here.

      • Peter I first stopped in this oak grove on 20 September 1714, returning from the victory at Gangut.
      • In 1717 2,000 trees were planted here, 200 of them by Peter himself.
      • The stone palace, designed by Steven van Zwieten, was handed over in summer 1724; Peter visited for the last time on 2 November 1724.
      • In 1727, under Peter II, the estate lost its status as a residence, and the palace interiors were taken apart and removed.
      • The ramparts in the park were raised during the Russo-Swedish war of 1741–1743 in case of a Swedish landing.
      • The 60.5-hectare park is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Historic Centre of Saint Petersburg".
