🏛 Rzhevka Station — Start of the Rzhevsky Corridor

      ст. Ржевка, Ржевская пл.

The memorial route "Rzhevsky Corridor" (1985) begins at the station — a continuation of the Road of Life through the city, with steles along the way. The "Traffic Controller" memorial sign by the station has not survived.

      • Rzhevka station appeared in 1892 on the narrow-gauge Irinovskaya Railway.
      • On 29 March 1942 German shelling set off explosions in trains of ammunition and fuel — the station was completely destroyed.
      • The first 7 km of track from Rzhevka toward the centre were called the "Rzhevsky Corridor": cargo from the Road of Life went along it.
      • In 1985 steles named "Our Daily Bread" were placed along the corridor to the design of the architect Vladimir Lukyanov.
      • The Road of Life kilometre posts from Rzhevka to the Osinovets lighthouse were declared historical monuments in 1974.

      Part of these routes

      • Rzhevka: the polygon, the Road of Life and the forest
      • Rzhevka: the Proving Ground and the Okhta Reservoir
