      🚶 Nobel Workers' Town

      Санкт-Петербург, Лесной пр., 20

A town for the staff of Nobel Brothers (1893–1916, Schröter, Meltzer, Lidval): Art Nouveau, apartments "with all conveniences" and little gardens between buildings.

      • Ludwig Nobel bought the plot for the housing colony in the mid-1880s, and his son Emanuel developed it.
      • The first three stone houses were built in 1893–1895 to designs by V. A. Schröter.
      • Meltzer built buildings 1–2 in 1906 from concrete blocks — one of the early examples of block construction.
      • Only workers valuable to the plant, usually hereditary craftsmen, were given apartments here.
      • In 2011 the passage inside the town was named Nobelsky Lane — after the old Petersburg form of the surname.
