🏛 Levashovo Memorial Cemetery (Levashovskaya Wasteland)

A former execution ground of the 1937–1950s: a spruce forest with monuments and plaques put up by relatives, and a small museum at the entrance. The grounds are open in the daytime, until about 18:00.

By various counts, between 19,450 and 46,771 people shot in 1937–1955 are buried here.
The site remained a secret KGB facility until April 1989, when a Memorial search group led by Valentin Muravsky found it.
The first memorial marker — a small granite boulder — was placed by Memorial activists in the centre of the site in July 1989.
There are monuments to victims of many peoples and faiths here: Finns, Jews, Norwegians, Estonians, Latvians, Italians, Tatars and others.
The names of those buried are almost unknown, so most personal plaques are cenotaphs, symbolic markers of memory.
In 2015 the memorial cemetery was granted cultural heritage status.
