      • The church was laid down on 6 (17) June 1777 under Catherine II and the Swedish king Gustav III — to remind him of Russia's strength.
      • At the consecration on 24 June 1780 Emperor Joseph II was present incognito, as "Count Falkenstein".
      • According to tradition, Catherine received news of the victory at Chesme on this spot.
      • Officially it is the Church of the Nativity of St John the Baptist; for a time it was the church of the Order of St George.
      • In 1924 the cross on the dome was replaced by an anvil, tongs and a hammer.
      • "Faith" and "Hope" above the entrance are shown with uncovered, loose hair, and "Faith" holds a Latin cross.
      • The iconostasis, destroyed by fire in 1930, was recreated from drawings in the military history archive and consecrated in 1998.
