🏛 Monument to the Pilots of the Red Banner Baltic Fleet

      пр. Науки, 25

A 1975 monument on the site of the Grazhdanka military airfield, from which Baltic Fleet pilots flew during the war.

      • The monument is a gilded polyhedron with 32 vertices: from any side it looks like a five-pointed star, like those on aircraft fuselages.
      • The pedestal rises upward, depicting a runway leading into the sky.
      • It opened on 15 October 1976; the authors are the sculptors O. N. Kharlamov and O. F. Lych and the architect A. V. Kozhevnikov.
      • During the 2009 restoration the star was repainted from silver to gold.
      • Nauki Avenue runs right along the main runway of the Grazhdanka airfield.
      • To distract German aviation, a dummy airfield with plywood planes was built between Murino and Bugry.
