      The Zhuzha valley and Kolomenskoye

      ⏱ 3 h🚶 4 km🍽 1📍 5 stops
      🚶 Moderate — 3–7 km

Downstream along the little Zhuzha River: from the “Robber’s Lair” playground in the ravine, where the robber Savka is said to have hidden, to Zayachya Polyana (Hare Meadow) and the water mill at the mouth in Kolomenskoye.

👶 With kids🌳 Parks and nature🏘 Off the centre
      👶 under 3, 3–6, 7–12 years · ✓ stroller-friendly

Stairs lead into the valley from Akademika Millionshchikova Street — with a stroller, enter by the path from Kolomensky Proyezd and exit by the path along the river to Sadovniki Street; the asphalt is cracked in places. In Kolomenskoye the paths are level.

🌳 Zhuzha Park in the Zhuzha River floodplain
ул. Академика Миллионщикова, от Коломенского проезда до ул. Садовники
        🆓 free entry
A 2023 landscape park in the valley of the little Zhuzha River, where the Bolshoy and Savkin ravines meet: paths and bridges along the water, a quiet Cherry Orchard, children's and sports grounds, picnic areas.
Start — 20 minutes on foot from Kashirskaya metro along Akademika Millionshchikova Street. Enter the park at Kolomensky Proyezd: here the Zhuzha comes out of its pipe, with the Cherry Garden and several playgrounds nearby to warm up.
        📖 More about the placeCollapse
        • The 22-hectare park opened in September 2023 on the site of an overgrown floodplain that did not even have paths.
        • Two ravines meet here — the Bolshoy and the Savkin.
        • In the park the Zhuzha flows on the surface, goes into a culvert downstream and comes out again in Kolomenskoye, shortly before it joins the Moskva River.
        • In the Cherry Orchard, deadwood was removed, old trees were pruned and new ones were planted.
        • Besides the playgrounds there is an amphitheatre, a workout area, streetball courts and 16 picnic areas with gazebos and tables.

A themed playground in the spirit of Russian wooden architecture for kids from 1 to 7: a castle with towers, suspension bridges, slides and rope climbs, huts, climbing "trees", a carousel and hammocks.
A bit further downstream, at 42 Akademika Millionshchikova Street, building 2. Swings and spring riders for the little ones, a castle with rope bridges and ropes for older kids; nearby are basketball courts and a football pitch for older siblings.
        📖 More about the placeCollapse
        • The playground is named after the robber Savka, who according to legend hid in the ravine here in the 17th century.
        • It was built in 2023 on the site of demolished garages; the area is over 1,300 m².
        • Three play zones are linked by paths: the central one has a big castle, the second two towers with a suspension bridge, the third tree-posts with branches, ropes and nets.

A new 2026 playground based on a tale about hares: five play zones for kids from 1 to 14, a carrot-shaped canopy over the sandpit, rabbit-hole tunnels in the hills and musical modules.
Enter Kolomenskoye through the checkpoint on Bolshaya Street at 39 Andropov Avenue — the playground is on your left. “Rabbit holes” in the hills and musical modules for children from 1 to 14, and a sandbox under the “carrot” for toddlers.
        📖 More about the placeCollapse
        • The playground opened in 2026, in the second stage of Kolomenskoye's redevelopment; the results of the stage were summed up on 22 September.
        • The equipment was made to a custom design, and a story about hares was invented for the playground, like a little forest fairy tale.
        • The five play zones suit different ages, from 1 to 14.
        • The rabbit-hole tunnels are hidden inside artificial half-sphere hills — great for hide-and-seek.
        • Cabbages and carrots are no accident: the market-gardening peasants of Kolomenskoye were called the "cabbage kings".

🏛 Water mill on the Zhuzha in Kolomenskoye
просп. Андропова, 39, стр. 62 (северная часть Коломенского)
A log mill with a dam on the little Zhuzha River shortly before it joins the Moskva; in summer an exhibition on grinding grain is open inside.
Go down Nizhnyaya Street to the Zhuzha — here the river is on the surface again. The exhibition in the mill is open only in summer, so in autumn look from outside; it’s about two hundred metres to where the Zhuzha meets the Moskva. Next door is the Falcon Yard with falcons and an owl — by ticket, Tuesday to Sunday.

        • The mill was built of larch in 2007, modelled on a mill from the village of Vladimirovka in the Irkutsk region.
        • A dam was built especially for it: water turns the wheel, and the wheel turns the millstones.
        • The log structure has two tiers: below, peasants ground grain and waited their turn; above, grain was stored and poured into the hopper.
        • The mill is part of Kolomenskoye's ethnographic complex, together with the Stable Yard and the homesteads of the blacksmith, the peasant and the beekeeper.

↩️ Getting back: From the mill north along Zhuzha Street — about 10 minutes to Klenovy Bulvar metro (Big Circle Line).
