A short pedestrian passage behind a gate-arch in the style of an old fortress wall — from Teatralny Proyezd to Nikolskaya, with the shop windows of fashion houses.

The passage was cut through in the 1870s by the brothers Pavel and Sergei Tretyakov, founders of the Tretyakov Gallery, to shorten the way from Nikolskaya to Teatralnaya Square.
The gate in the style of the Kitay-gorod fortress wall was built by the architect Alexander Kaminsky, the Tretyakovs' son-in-law.
The passage was private: it was opened by day and locked at night.
Since the 2000s it has housed boutiques of the most expensive brands, and the passage itself became pedestrian.
