🏛 Nadia Léger's Mosaic Portraits on Vysotsky Alley

      Дубна, аллея Высоцкого, 1 (у ДК «Мир»)

A gallery of mosaic portraits of “outstanding figures of the 20th century”, donated to the city by the artist Nadezhda Khodasevich-Léger.

      • For a solo exhibition in France in 1972, Nadia Léger made 65 mosaics and gave 60 of them to the USSR.
      • In 1974, 20 mosaics were brought to Dubna for an exhibition and installed in front of the Mir House of Culture.
      • The mosaics, which had begun to deteriorate, were put in storage at JINR and returned after repairs in 1996, for the town's 40th anniversary.
      • Portraits of Marx, Lenin and Krupskaya were never displayed in Dubna, “for ideological reasons”.
      • Ten mosaics stand by the Mir House of Culture, and another 4, portraits of cosmonauts, on Kosmonavtov Square by the Oktyabr House of Culture.
      • Nadia Léger was the widow of Fernand Léger and founded his museum in Biot; at its 1960 opening the honorary chairmen were Braque, Picasso and Chagall.
