A bridge over the Moscow Canal with an embankment along the water: from here you can watch motor ships and barges pass through the canal.

      • The canal is 128 km long, 85 m wide at the surface and 5.5 m deep.
      • The canal supplies Moscow with more than 60% of its drinking and industrial water.
      • The canal is not gravity-fed: water from the Volga is lifted by pumps through five stages, each with a lock.
      • The canal was filled with water on 17 April 1937 and officially opened on 15 July of the same year.
