      🚶 Kropotkinskaya Street

      Дмитров, Кропоткинская ул.

An old merchants' street at the foot of the rampart: the Novoselov and Klyatov houses, bronze townspeople and the house where the anarchist Pyotr Kropotkin spent his last years.

      • Before the revolution the street was called Dvoryanskaya (Nobles') Street.
      • The Klyatov house was built in 1822 in the spirit of wooden classicism, and the neighbouring house of the merchant Novoselov in 1842 in the Empire style.
      • Sculptures of Dmitrov residents of different classes were installed in 2003 (sculptor A. Karaulov), and Rukavishnikov's monument to Kropotkin in 2004.
      • Kropotkin lived in Count Olsufyev's house from May 1918 until his death on 8 February 1921 and worked on his “Ethics” here.
      • The Kropotkin House Museum opened on 6 September 2014; the authentic stoves and a fireplace of the late 19th century survive in it.
