      • The palace design was commissioned in Paris in 1780 from the architect Jacques-Jacot Guerne for 1,200 livres; he apparently never visited Russia.
      • Construction began in 1784; in 2003 restorers found a copper foundation plaque with this date.
      • In 1810 Prince Nikolai Yusupov bought the unfinished estate for 245,000 rubles.
      • In 1812 the palace was plundered by the French, and in January 1820 a fire destroyed most of the collections.
      • For its terraced park Arkhangelskoye was nicknamed the "Versailles of the Moscow region"; Pushkin, Karamzin and five emperors visited.
      • The palace holds two large Tiepolo paintings about Cleopatra and twelve canvases by Hubert Robert.
      • The largest hall is the double-height Oval Hall on the main axis of the ensemble.
