🏛 Church of the Archangel Michael and the Holy Gates

A small whitewashed church with tiers of kokoshniks above the slope to the Moskva River, built before the palace.

The church was built in 1660–1667 on the site of a wooden one and is the oldest building of the estate.
The probable architect is Pavel Potekhin, a serf master of Prince Odoevsky, who built a similar church in Nikolskoye-Uryupino.
The layout is unusual: the side chapels adjoin the church diagonally, and the vaults rest on only two pillars.
Under the Yusupovs the church was remodeled in Neoclassical style, and restorers brought back its rows of kokoshniks in 1964–1965.
The Holy Gates with two turrets in a fence of stone and pebbles were put up in 1826.
Princess Tatiana Yusupova (1868–1888) is buried by the south wall; Antokolsky's "Angel of Prayer" from her tombstone was moved to the Tea House in 1936.
