      Russia's oldest zoo on the Kaban shore: a botanical garden, enclosures and the new "Zambezi River" section.

      • It is Russia's oldest zoo: the botanical garden was founded at Kazan University by Karl Fuchs in 1806.
      • The garden opened to visitors in 1834, when the greenhouse was built.
      • The zoo opened on 8 November 1925 in the courtyard of the Central Museum, and in 1931 it was merged with the botanical garden.
      • Reconstruction began in 2015, and a 7-hectare "Zambezi River" section appeared.
      • Since 1996 the zoo and botanical garden has been a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA).
