      🌳 Upper Lake

      наб. Верхнего озера

A man-made 13th-century lake in the middle of the city: shores for walking, fort towers and the villas of Maraunenhof.

      • The lake is man-made: in 1270 the knights of the Teutonic Order dammed a tributary of the Pregolya.
      • It is about 900 metres long and lies 22 metres above the Pregolya.
      • On its shores are the Dohna and Wrangel towers, Yunost Park and the villa district of Maraunenhof.
      • Some of the water flows down a cascade into the Lower Lake.
