      🌳 Kharitonovsky Garden

      Харитоновский сад

A 19th-century English park behind the estate: a pond with islands and a rotunda, little bridges and a hillock — a quiet spot a stone’s throw from the Church on the Blood.

      • The garden was laid out in 1826 and is named after the estate’s owner, Pyotr Kharitonov.
      • The pond has two artificial islands; the rotunda on the central one was built in 1935–1937.
      • Of the original garden buildings only the grotto survives — wine was kept and ice cream made in it.
      • Prokudin-Gorsky photographed the old rotunda on the hillock in colour in 1910.
