        • The zoological garden opened on 1 (13) August 1865; its first owners were Sophie and Julius Gebhardt.
        • Alexander II gave the zoo a pair of Indian elephants, and officers of the corvette ‘Rynda’ gave it a polar bear.
        • The elephant Betty was killed in a raid on the night of 8–9 September 1941, while the hippopotamus Krasavitsa survived the siege.
        • In memory of the staff who saved the zoo during the siege, it stayed “Leningrad” even after the city was renamed.
        • Until 1952 it was called a zoological garden rather than a zoo.
        • The young zoologists' club at the zoo has been running since 1929.

        • The park was laid out on the glacis of the Peter and Paul Fortress on the initiative of Finance Minister Yegor Kankrin; the project was approved in 1842.
        • The park is named in memory of Alexander I; the first public festivities here took place on Alexander's Day, 30 August 1845.
        • The People's House was built in 1898–1900 on the basis of a pavilion from the Nizhny Novgorod Exhibition — now it houses the Music Hall and the planetarium.
        • In 1911 a monument to the destroyer ‘Steregushchy’ was unveiled in the park.
        • From 1923 the park bore Lenin's name — he spoke twice in the People's House.
        • Gorkovskaya metro station opened right in the park in 1963.

        • Since 1868 the museum has occupied the Kronverk Arsenal, built in 1851–1860 by the architect P. I. Tamansky.

        • The exhibits include cannons by the famous founder Andrey Chokhov.
        • During the Yaroslavl uprising of 1918 about 2,000 banners from the museum's evacuated holdings burned.
        • In the courtyard by the Kronverk Canal stands a monument to the Decembrists executed on this spot in 1826.

        • The fortress was founded on 16 (27) May 1703 — this day is considered the founding day of Petersburg.
        • The fortress never took part in military action.
        • From 1706 the earthen ramparts began to be replaced with brick ones; the bastions are named after Peter's associates — Menshikov, Naryshkin, Trubetskoy.
        • The Peter and Paul Cathedral was built in 1712–1733 to a design by Trezzini; the bell tower is 122.5 m high, and inside is the Romanov burial vault.
        • The Peter Gate is dedicated to the victories over Sweden; Trezzini designed its Baroque facade in 1708.
        • Until the early 1920s the Trubetskoy Bastion held a prison for political prisoners; Maxim Gorky was held there in 1905.
        • In 1991 a monument to Peter I by Mikhail Shemyakin was placed on the central alley.
