        • The cathedral was built in 1836–1847 to a design by architect David Visconti and consecrated on 11 December 1847.
        • The church combines Empire and Russo-Byzantine styles, and the Holy Synod provided all the funding for its construction.
        • One of its bells was a Swedish trophy — cast in Stockholm in 1649 and weighing almost a tonne.
        • In Soviet times the building served as a warehouse, a museum, a Pioneer House, a printing house and a consumer-services plant.
        • The church was returned to believers in 1992, and in 2013 it became a cathedral again.

        • The church was built by December 1930, when the town was called Käkisalmi and belonged to Finland.
        • The design was by Armas Eliel Lindgren — one of the leading masters of Finnish National Romanticism.
        • After the war the building became the town's House of Culture, and in the 2000s a leisure centre with slot machines and a bar.
        • The building has been restored, but the church was never given back.

        • Medieval Korela was the north-westernmost town of Rus: the Novgorodians built a wooden fortress here in 1310.
        • In 1610–1611 the fortress withstood a six-month siege by Delagardie's Swedes; only about a hundred defenders survived.
        • From 1611 to 1710 the fortress was Swedish and called Kexholm — "cuckoo island".
        • The Round Tower was long thought to be a Novgorodian building of 1364, but excavations in the 1970s showed it is Swedish, from the second half of the 16th century.
        • The tower walls are 4 metres thick at the bottom — for a height of only about 8 metres.
        • Besides Pugachev's family, the fortress-prison held Decembrists in the 18th–19th centuries.
        • The museum in the fortress has been open since 1962.

        • The wooden station in the "Northern Art Nouveau" style was designed by architect Ture Hellström.
        • The station opened in 1916 on the Finnish line Petersburg — Hiitola; until 1948 it was called Käkisalmi.
        • Käkisalmi means "cuckoo strait" in Finnish — from the same root as the Swedish Kexholm.
        • The station building was reconstructed in 2007–2008; it is recognised as an identified cultural heritage site.
