        • The church, 81 meters tall, took 24 years to build — from 1883 to 1907.
        • Alexander III rejected the designs of two competitions and approved the design by Alfred Parland and Archimandrite Ignaty (Malyshev).
        • The mosaics were made by Vladimir Frolov's workshop from sketches by more than 30 artists, among them Viktor Vasnetsov and Mikhail Nesterov.
        • During the siege the church was used as a morgue, and after the war as a scenery warehouse of the Maly Opera Theater.
        • In 1961 steeplejacks found a German high-explosive shell in the central dome, which had lain there for 18 years.
        • The museum opened on 19 August 1997 — exactly 90 years after the church was consecrated.

        • The square was first called Mikhailovskaya — after the palace of Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich, built to Rossi's design.
        • In the early 1920s it was Lassalle Square, and it has had its present name since 26 September 1940.
        • The garden was laid out by decree of Nicholas I from 1827: Rossi's layout, planting by the gardener Joseph Bush, "in the English style".
        • The monument to Pushkin by Mikhail Anikushin was installed in the garden in 1957.
        • In 1895 the Mikhailovsky Palace was bought by the treasury and became the Russian Museum of Emperor Alexander III.

        • The Imperial Mikhailovsky Theatre opened in 1833 by decree of Nicholas I.
        • In 1859 Albert Cavos enlarged the stage and added another tier to the auditorium.
        • Johann Strauss, Sarah Bernhardt, Mathilde Kschessinska and Feodor Chaliapin performed on this stage.
        • The audience included Pushkin, Zhukovsky, Leo Tolstoy and Tchaikovsky.
        • In Soviet times it was MALEGOT, the Maly Opera Theatre; from 1989 it bore Mussorgsky's name.
        • The historic name "Mikhailovsky" was returned to the theatre in 2001.

        • In the 1820s there was a tavern here run by Heinrich Klee, where mostly foreigners stayed.
        • The single "Evropeyskaya" hotel was assembled in 1873–1874 to Ludwig Fontana's design from Klee's hotel and the neighbouring Rogov house.
        • In 1907–1914 Fyodor Lidval rebuilt the interiors and added floors with the summer restaurant "Krysha" (Roof).
        • The ground-floor arcade survives from Carlo Rossi's façade composition.
        • From September 1941 to April 1942 the building housed an evacuation hospital with 1,300 beds.
        • Until 1991 the hotel was called "Evropeyskaya".
