Yesenin Park and the Okkervil River with a stroller

      ⏱ 1 h 15 min🚶 2 km🍽 1📍 3 stops
      🐢 A little — under 3 km

A short loop by Ulitsa Dybenko: a forest in the middle of a residential district, the Okkervil River with beavers and a warm bakery by the metro.

👶 With kids🌳 Parks and nature🏘 Off the centre⏱ An hour or so
      👶 under 3, 3–6 years · ✓ stroller-friendly

Ulitsa Dybenko station has no lift — go down the escalator with the attendant's help, or come by surface transport. The park has paved paths; the slopes to the water are steep and dirt — look at the river from the bridge.

        🌳 Yesenin Park
между ул. Дыбенко, пр. Большевиков, ул. Подвойского и Товарищеским пр.
        🚪 entrance from Dybenko Street
A residential-area park by Ulitsa Dybenko metro around a surviving forest: the Okkervil River runs through it, and there is a pond and a monument to Yesenin.
Entrance from Dybenko Street — five minutes from the metro. Find the Yesenin monument — the Writers' Alley was laid out next to it. On weekday mornings the park is almost empty.

        • The park was laid out in the early 1980s on a woodland tract on the bank of the Okkervil — the forest in its centre was left as it was.
        • The pond appeared when a nameless stream was dammed.
        • The monument to Sergey Yesenin was unveiled on 6 October 2013, when the Writers' Alley was also laid.
        • Beavers have lived in the Okkervil near the park for several years now.
        • There is no official act naming the park: it received Yesenin's name in the 2007 city law on green spaces.

        🏛 Okkervil at Tovarishchesky Bridge
        Товарищеский пр., мост через Оккервиль
The very Okkervil of Tatyana Tolstaya's story: a narrow river between high banks, willows and traces of beavers.
From Tovarishchesky Bridge you can see how the Okkervil winds. Look by the water for trunks gnawed by beavers — beavers have lived here for several years.

        • The Okkervil is an 18-km left tributary of the Okhta, starting in the marshes near the Koltushi Heights.
        • The river is from one and a half to 25 metres wide and less than a metre deep.
        • By one version the name comes from the Swedish colonel Okkervil, who owned a manor at the river's mouth; by another, from a Finnish word for “bend”.
        • The hero of Tolstaya's story “The Okkervil River” never went to see it, so as not to destroy the dream.

A warm finish: the bakery on the ground floor of the Nevsky mall, right by the metro. Opens at 10:00 — if you walk in the morning, start with the park.
🍴 A café-bakery of the Petersburg chain by the exit of Ulitsa Dybenko metro. What to order: a croissant, syrniki, hot chocolate for your child.
