        • The cemetery was founded by a Senate decree on 11 May 1756.
        • The name comes from Volkova village and Volkovo Field, where, according to documents of the time, wolves roamed in packs.
        • "Mostki" (little bridges) was the name for the wooden planking on the muddy paths; there were the "Gypsy" and "German" mostki.
        • Construction of the stone Resurrection Church began in 1782 under Ivan Starov.
        • In 1888 the court Cossack Tikhon Sidorov, killed in the wreck of the tsar's train at Borki, was buried here.
        • The road here gave its name to Rasstannaya Street — "from the verb 'to part'".

        • The tradition goes back to 1802, when Radishchev was buried here; his grave has not survived, and there is a cenotaph.
        • Next to Belinsky (1848) the critics Dobrolyubov (1861) and Pisarev (1868) were laid to rest — and so the section became "literary".
        • Leskov, Kuprin, Miklukho-Maklai, Bekhterev and the radio inventor Alexander Popov are also buried here.
        • In 1935 the necropolis became a museum; the remains of Blok, Goncharov and Pomyalovsky were moved here.
        • Lenin's mother Maria Ulyanova and his sisters Anna and Olga are buried at Mostki.
        • The necropolis has about 500 gravestones.

        • The land for the cemetery was allotted in 1773, although the Petrikirche congregation had asked for it as early as 1741.
        • The first burial here was the merchant Johann Gebhard Bretfeld, and for a long time the cemetery was called Bretfeld's.
        • The Petrikirche introduced a coordinate system for the graves: its archive lets you find the burial places of at least 40,000 people.
        • In 1900 new, taller gates were built — hearses had grown taller by then.
        • In the 1920s the wooden buildings were taken apart for firewood, and the gates and chapel for brick.
        • In the 1990s a German society documented more than 2,000 monuments here.

        • Until 1904 the Volkovka was called the Chernaya Rechka (Black River).
        • In Soviet times the building housed a children's hospital.

        • Its residents saw their dead neighbours off from Rasstannaya to Volkovo Cemetery — the "Almshouse Rows" there are among the oldest.

        • The hospital attached to the home, at the corner of Tambovskaya, was built in 1890–1891 by V. I. Barankeev.
