The highest point in this part of town: from the ledge above Engels Avenue you can see the city all the way to the Gulf of Finland.
10 minutes south along Engelsa from Ozerki metro; climb to the ledge for the panorama.
        📖 More about the placeCollapse
        • The hill is 40 metres above sea level and is part of the Pargolovo–Levashovo moraine ridge.
        • One version says the Swedes sent messengers from here to ask Peter the Great for peace — hence the name ("poklon" means a bow).
        • Five streets and avenues meet at the top, forming a local "Five Corners".
        • A monument to Stalin stood on the hill from 1949 to 1961.
        • At the very top of the hill stood the dacha of the Tibetan doctor Badmaev, who treated Rasputin.

A gymnasium building "for children of both sexes" from 1911–1914 — a landmark of the dacha-era Ozerki.

        • The Shuvalovo-Ozerki boys' and girls' gymnasiums opened in 1909 and at first squeezed into private houses.
        • They got their own three-storey brick building in 1914.
        • The plot was donated by the heirs of the Kolomyagi owners, the Orlov-Denisovs.
        • The designer was the technician Nikolai Vasiliev, a namesake of the famous Art Nouveau architect.
        • In Soviet times it housed School No. 114, and in the 1990s–2000s a dormitory.

        🌳 Upper Suzdal Lake
        пляж у Славянской набережной, Озерки
Ozerki's main "dacha" lake: a beach, pines and a view of the steep bank of Poklonnaya Hill.
Go down to the Upper Lake and follow the shore north.

        • The Upper Lake is 600 by 450 metres, with a maximum depth of 11 metres.
        • All three Suzdal lakes were once a single glacial lake, Parkola — hence the name Pargolovo.
        • The lakes are fed by springs, as the water's temperature and composition show.
        • After the 2020–2024 improvements the Upper Lake was given over to beach recreation.
        • In 1906 Alexander Blok wrote "The Stranger" in Ozerki.
