        • The YaTB-1 trolleybus was found on a dacha plot in the Leningrad region; it is the only one in the world to survive, and its restoration took four years.

        • Every year on memorial dates, trams that survived the Siege go out on the line carrying veterans and Siege survivors.

        • The town was built in 1904–1906 on the initiative of the lawyer Dmitry Dril; the engineer Dmitriev was sent specially to study cheap housing in Europe.
        • It had 200 apartments of 1–3 rooms and 110 rooms with shared kitchens for single tenants.
        • Rent was noticeably cheaper than in tenement houses: a one-room apartment cost 8.5–12 rubles a month.
        • Since the early 1980s the end wall of house No. 69 has carried a 15×5 m mural: by one account it was painted by Mukhina School students.
        • In the 1920s a club of the Sevkabel plant with a cinema hall opened in the former library and lecture hall.

        • The cruiser Kirov served from 1938 to 1974 and carried nine 180-mm guns.
        • During the war the cruiser fired in action more than 200 times and repelled over forty air raids on Leningrad.
        • In February 1943 the Kirov was awarded the Order of the Red Banner.

🌳 Linear Park on the Reclaimed Land
        Морская наб., намыв В.О.
A new embankment on the reclaimed land of the "Marine Façade" with views of the gulf, the WHSD and Lakhta Center.
A walk north along the bay on the new embankment.
        📖 More about the placeCollapse
        • Reclamation of the "Marine Façade" began in 2006: the rights to reclaim 476 hectares in the Neva Bay were then sold to Terra Nova.
        • The Linear Park of over 20 hectares unites several squares and is being built in stages.
        • In May 2025 a light-and-music fountain started working in the park — a 32.8×24.8 m basin, jets up to 9 m, more than 200 lights.
        • The fountain stands in Alexander Volodin Square, where the Smolenka flows into the gulf.
        • Because of the reclamation and the WHSD, the old Morskaya Embankment ended up far from the water.

        • The island was called Golodai and took the Decembrists' name in 1926, for the centenary of the execution of five leaders of the uprising.
        • Excavations in 1917 found the remains of several people here: the place had been used to bury suicides.
        • A foundation stone was laid in 1926, and in 1939 an obelisk of black polished granite to a design by V. N. Bobrov.
        • The local historian Andrei Chernov concluded in the 1980s that the grave lay on the vanished island of Gonoropulo, which merged with Golodai.
        • According to another version, the Decembrists were buried on the grounds of today's Almaz plant, where they also have a monument.

        • The site for the cemetery was allotted by the architect Pietro Trezzini in 1748; on an 1753 plan it is labelled "German Cemetery".
        • Euler, Bétancourt and Thomas de Thomon were moved from here to the necropolis of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in the 1930s–1980s.
        • The cemetery was closed to burials in 1939, and in 1985 part of its territory was given over to building a fire station.
        • In the mid-1990s the Swedish Nobel Family Society gave money to restore the gravestone of Alfred Nobel's elder brother.
        • The canopy over the von Beckmann family grave became famous after "Brother": it's where Danila talks to the German.
        • Children killed in the shelling of 9 May 1942 are buried here; a monument to them was erected in 1966.
