        🏛 Kirovsky Department Store (factory-kitchen)
        пл. Стачек, 9
        🆓 free entry
Leningrad's biggest factory-kitchen and the House of Cooperation of 1929–1931 — constructivism in which a department store still operates.
Start at Narvskaya metro. Walk around the building: the semicircular bulge of the former canteens faces the square, with atriums inside where the courtyards were.

        • Built in 1929–1931 to a design by Barutchev, Gilter, Meerson and Rubanchik — the authors of other Leningrad factory-kitchens too.
        • The factory-kitchen fed the workers of Krasny Putilovets and opened in autumn 1930, the department store in spring 1931.
        • Self-service was first used in the canteens here.
        • The flat roofs had open galleries for eating outdoors — later they were built over.
        • In 2017 the courtyards were covered with glass atriums.

🏛 School of the 10th Anniversary of October
        пр. Стачек, 11/5
The first school built in Soviet Leningrad — early constructivism by Alexander Nikolsky, with a plan that echoes the hammer and sickle.
Across the avenue: we look from outside from the corner of Stachek and Gladkova — an arc-shaped block and volumes of different heights. It's an active lyceum, no entry.

        • Opened on 7 November 1927, the tenth anniversary of the revolution; designed by A. S. Nikolsky and A. V. Krestin.
        • It is considered the earliest realised constructivist project in the city.
        • The building closes the vista of Traktornaya Street, which was built at the same time as the school.
        • The school for 1,000 pupils was equipped with laboratories, workshops and even an observatory.
        • Putilov workers were its patrons, the first headmaster was a former factory worker, and the pupils built a tractor themselves.
        • Today it is Lyceum No. 384.

🏛 Kirovsky District Soviet and Kirov Monument
пр. Стачек, 18 / Кировская пл.
Noi Trotsky's House of Soviets with an 11-storey tower and a 120-metre ribbon of windows, with the 1938 Kirov monument in front. One of the main monuments of Leningrad's avant-garde.
Stand by the Kirov monument and look at the tower and the long ribbon of windows. Kirov's “fulcrum” quote is on the front of the pedestal.

        • The building was built in 1930–1935 by the architect N. A. Trotsky and is still occupied by the district administration.
        • It is Leningrad's first building of this type: authorities, post office, bank, club and assembly hall under one roof.
        • The 50-metre tower is crowned with a cube bearing a hammer and sickle and nods to European town halls.
        • Thanks to the reinforced-concrete frame, the ribbon glazing runs for 120 m.
        • On the facade is an old barometer by the firm “K. Votkei” with traces of three bullets.
        • The Kirov monument by the sculptor N. V. Tomsky was unveiled on 6 December 1938 and won a Stalin Prize.

        🏛 Gaza Palace of Culture
        пр. Стачек, 72
The Putilov workers' palace of culture opposite the Kirov Plant — constructivism by the authors of the Gorky Palace of Culture, which took thirty years to finish.
Two kilometers along Stachek past Stalin-era buildings; or one metro stop from Narvskaya to Kirovsky Zavod. The Palace of Culture's facade is best seen from the other side of the avenue, from the factory gatehouse.

        • Built in 1930–1935 by the architects A. I. Gegello and D. L. Krichevsky — the authors of the country's first Gorky Palace of Culture.
        • The plans for the “club for the Putilov workers” were discussed by the plant's workers themselves.
        • The building was only finally completed in the 1960s.
        • During the war, people's militia battalions were formed here and firing points were set up in the building.
        • In 1974 the palace hosted an exhibition of unofficial artists.
        • In front of the entrance is a 1962 bust of I. I. Gaza, a monument of monumental art.
