        ✨ Skazka Puppet Theatre
        Московский пр., 121
        🎟 ticket · for shows
A children's puppet theatre by Moskovskiye Vorota metro: morning shows of fairy tales by Pushkin, Andersen and Yershov, and separate productions for the very youngest.
Shows are usually at 11:00 or 12:00 and at 16:00: “The Little Humpbacked Horse”, “Doctor Aibolit”, “Thumbelina”, and “Lyusha's Tales” for toddlers. Tickets on the theater's website or at the box office.
        📖 More about the placeCollapse
        • The theatre was founded in 1944, during the war.
        • For almost forty years the company had no home of its own — it only got the building on Moskovsky Prospekt in 1986.
        • The auditorium is intimate, with about three hundred seats — the puppets are easy to see from every row.
        • The repertoire includes “The Little Humpbacked Horse”, “The Tale of Tsar Saltan”, “Thumbelina”, “Doctor Aibolit” and shows for toddlers.

Five minutes along Moskovsky Prospekt to the metro. A pie snack before the model: there's almost nowhere to eat there, and it's worth at least two hours.
🍴 A pie shop of the Petersburg chain right at Moskovskiye Vorota: pies by weight, soups and hot dishes at the counter, quick and with no waiting. What to order: chicken and mushroom pie, sweet lingonberry pie, borscht; for kids — sweet apple pie.
        📖 More about the placeCollapse
        • The pie shop is two minutes from the exit of Moskovskiye Vorota metro.
        • Pies are sold by the slice, by weight — handy for giving kids a small piece of several kinds.
        • You can also take a pie to go for the walk to Grand Maket.

        🏛 Moscow Triumphal Gate
A cast-iron Doric gate honouring the victories in the wars of the 1820s, on Moskovsky Prospekt.
A gate made entirely of cast iron: let the kids find helmets, armor and banners on the frieze — trophies of Russian victories — and count the columns.

        • The author is Vasily Stasov; when built, it was the world's largest structure assembled entirely of metal.
        • The gate took four years to build and was solemnly opened on 16 (28) October 1838.
        • Back in 1780 Catherine II had commissioned a design for the city gate from Charles Clérisseau, but there was no money for it.
        • The portico of 12 columns in two rows is 23.2 m high and 36 m wide.
        • In 1936 the gate was taken apart to widen the street; during the siege its cast-iron sections were used as anti-tank barriers.
        • The gate was reassembled on its original site in 1959.

        • The model is built at a scale of 1:87 and is second in area only to Hamburg's Miniatur Wunderland.
        • The project's author and investor is the entrepreneur Sergey Morozov; about a hundred people spent five years building the model.
        • The first guests came in April 2011, and the museum officially opened on 8 June 2012.
        • Every 13 minutes day and night change over the model, lit by more than 800,000 LEDs.
        • More than 2,500 m of rails run through the model, with over 2,700 pieces of rolling stock, 250 of them locomotives.
        • The little cars brake at traffic lights and overtake, receiving power remotely from under the model.
        • The museum occupies a two-storey building of 1953 in the Stalinist Empire style.
