        🏛 K. K. Grot Monument
пр. Шаумяна (сквер школы-интерната им. Грота)
A monument of 1906 by Antokolsky: a bust of the founder of the guardianship for the blind and a blind girl with a book.
From Novocherkasskaya, 10 minutes along Shaumyana Prospekt. The monument stands in the park of the school for the blind and can be seen from the avenue: look at the book on the girl's lap — the text in it is real.
        📖 More about the placeCollapse
        • In 1881 Konstantin Grot created the Empress Maria Alexandrovna Guardianship for the Blind.
        • Mark Antokolsky managed to sculpt only the girl — her model was a pupil of the school for the blind, Elena Supse.
        • The book on the girl's lap is real: Ushinsky's “Detsky Mir”, open at page 95.
        • In 1963 the monument moved here from Pesochnaya Street, following the school.

        • The Okkervil is an 18-km left tributary of the Okhta.
        • The name is often linked with the Swedish manor of Colonel Okkervil in the late 17th century.
        • Yablonovsky Bridge is named after the village of Yablonovka; the present pedestrian one was built in 1989.
        • Granitny Bridge opened in 2019 and has a separate span for the tram line.

        🏛 Ladozhsky Railway Station
        Заневский пр., 73
A modern 2003 station with a bright hall — the city's only through station.
Through Zanevsky to the station. It's easy to go down to Ladozhskaya metro directly from the station.

        • The station was built in 2001–2003 to a design by Nikita Yavein (Studio 44).
        • The idea of a through station on the right bank arose as early as 1973, but the project was judged too expensive and shelved for almost 30 years.
        • One of the prototypes was Ivan Fomin's unrealised 1912 project for Nikolaevsky (Moskovsky) Station.
        • Officially the station is called Dacha Dolgorukova — after the lands of Peter the Great's associate Yakov Dolgorukov.
        • The suburban station is tucked away on the lower level, while long-distance trains are met by a glazed hall above the tracks.
        • The project won the Grand Prix of the Zodchestvo 2001 festival.
