🏛 Alexander Nevsky Chapel in Murino
        Кооперативная ул., Мурино
A tented-roof stone chapel of 1882 at the old fork in Murino's roads.
From Devyatkino, 10 minutes south along Kooperativnaya Street. The tent-roofed chapel stands at an old fork in the roads.
        📖 More about the placeCollapse
        • The chapel was built with money from local peasants in memory of the assassinated Alexander II.
        • In 1911 a bust of the emperor by Pietro Kufferle was placed beside it — it vanished during the Civil War.
        • In Soviet times there was a kerosene shop here.
        • Since 2019 the chapel has been an object of cultural heritage of regional significance.

🏛 Church of St Catherine in Murino
        Кооперативная ул., 21, Мурино
A rotunda of 1786–1790 designed by Nikolai Lvov — the estate church of the Counts Vorontsov.
Right behind the chapel. Walk around the rotunda: the bell tower was rebuilt in 1856, but the church itself is Lvov's, from 1790. It's a working church.

        • The church was commissioned by Count Alexander Vorontsov in memory of Countess Ekaterina, the wife of his brother Semyon.
        • Consecrated on 25 February 1790.
        • One version holds that the icons for the iconostasis were painted by Vladimir Borovikovsky.
        • The wedding scene from the film “Dubrovsky” was shot here.
        • After the war the church was a salt store, and vegetables were kept in the altar.

🌳 Murino Park on the Okhta
        Мурино, Родниковый пер.
A park on the bank of the Okhta in the centre of Murino — the very same Okhta that flows into the Neva at Smolny.
10 minutes east to the river. Walk along the Okhta on the park paths — it's the same river that flows into the Neva by Smolny.
        📖 More about the placeCollapse
        • In 19th-century descriptions, Murino is a “village on the River Okhta”.
        • The Okhta flows into the Neva at Okhtinsky Cape, where the Swedish fortress of Nyenschantz stood.
        • The Vorontsovs dug ponds and canals in Murino and grew apricots and lemons in greenhouses.

↩️ Getting back: To Devyatkino — about 10 minutes on foot to the northwest.
