        • The synagogue was built in 1883–1893 to a design by Ivan Shaposhnikov and Lev Bakhman with the participation of Vladimir Stasov and Nikolai Benois.
        • The main donors were Baron Günzburg and Samuil Polyakov.
        • The vestibule has special acoustics: a whisper can be heard from more than 10 metres away.
        • In January 1930 the synagogue was closed, but after the community complained to the All-Russian Central Executive Committee it was reopened in June of the same year.

🏛 Estonian Church of St John
        ул. Декабристов, 54
An Estonian Lutheran kirche on the former Ofitserskaya Street: in Soviet times it was rebuilt in a constructivist spirit.
Further along Dekabristov, No. 54: only the walls remain of the old kirche, and the facade and the missing bell tower are traces of Soviet remodeling.

        • The church was founded in 1859 to a design by Harald Bosse and consecrated on 27 November 1860.
        • The kirche was originally pseudo-Romanesque, with a tall tented bell tower.
        • In 1930 it was closed, rebuilt in the constructivist style and its bell tower demolished.
        • The building was returned to the Estonian community in 1997, and services in Estonian have been held here since 2000.

        • The Pryazhka flows out of the Moika and into the Bolshaya Neva; it is 1.32 km long.
        • The river used to be called the Chukhonskaya; it got its name from the spinning barns moved here in 1738 because of the fire risk.
        • Blok lived in the house at the corner of the Pryazhka and Ofitserskaya Street from 1912 until his death.
        • The bronze monument to Blok by E. Rotanov and I. Kozhin was unveiled in 2023.
        • Between the Matisov and Bannyi bridges, walking paths run along the slopes.

        • The church was built in 1823–1825 to a design by David Visconti.
        • The plot and the money were donated by Stanisław Bohusz-Siestrzeńcewicz, Russia's first Catholic metropolitan; he is buried in the church.
        • The church was closed in 1934; from 1961 it housed a workshop of the Rot Front factory.
        • The building was returned to the Church in 1996, and in 1998 it was consecrated by the Primate of Poland, Cardinal Józef Glemp.

        • Built in 1903–1907 to a design by Alexander Poleshchuk for the Estonian Orthodox parish.
        • At that time about 4,000 Orthodox Estonians lived in Petersburg; before the church was built they prayed in the basement of a neighbouring church.
        • Services were held in Estonian and Church Slavonic.
        • The church was closed in 1935, and part of its furnishings was passed to St Nicholas Cathedral.
        • The neighbouring Isidorovsky Square is named after the church.

↩️ Getting back: To Sadovaya and Sennaya Ploshchad — 20 minutes on foot along Griboedov Canal or Sadovaya; surface transport runs along Sadovaya.
