        🏛 Saltykova Dacha
        ул. Академика Крылова, 4
A pseudo-Gothic mansion of the 1840s by Chyornaya Rechka metro — all that is left of the Stroganovs' country estate.
From the metro, two minutes along Akademika Krylova Street. Look at the mansion over the fence; inside are offices. The park opposite, by Primorsky Prospekt, is the site of Villa Rode, the restaurant from Blok's poems.

        • The plot by the Chyornaya Rechka went to Count P. A. Stroganov's daughter Elizaveta, by marriage Princess Saltykova.
        • Pyotr Sadovnikov began building in 1837 in the pseudo-Gothic style, and Harald Bosse finished it by 1847.
        • While Chyornaya Rechka metro was being built in 1979–1980, site foremen sat in the mansion; afterwards it stood empty for years and caught fire.
        • In the 1990s the house was restored by the publisher Burda Moden Petersburg.
        • On the neighbouring plot, in 1908–1917, stood the restaurant Villa Rode, immortalised by Blok.

        • Baron Sergey Stroganov bought the land opposite Kamenny Island in 1743.
        • In 1754 Antonio Rinaldi built a pavilion here resembling the Sliding Hill at Oranienbaum — ten years before it.
        • The marble Neptune from the pond of the Stroganov dacha now stands in the courtyard of the Stroganov Palace on the Moika.
        • In 1827 a new road from Stroganov Bridge (now Akademika Krylova Street) cut the garden in two.

        • The house was built in 1823–1824 by Ludwig Charlemagne on the site of Count Golovin's manor.
        • In summer 1825 Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna lived here, and in 1827 the dacha was assigned to the Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna.
        • In 1803 a farm and an agricultural school were set up on the plot to a design by Andrei Voronikhin.
        • From 1853 the house held a theatre school, and after the revolution a children's skin hospital.

↩️ Getting back: Back to Chyornaya Rechka — about 15 minutes the same way; to Lesnaya — about 20 minutes along Kantemirovskaya Street.
