        • The monument was unveiled on 27 October 1968, for the 50th anniversary of the Komsomol.
        • The pedestal was cut from a 250-tonne granite monolith from a quarry on the Karelian Isthmus.
        • A capsule with a letter to the Komsomol members of 2018 is sealed into the base.
        • Until 1958 Komsomolskaya Square was called Round Square: it is the only square in Petersburg shaped as a perfect circle.

        • The turret’s armour is about 30 mm thick.
        • Next to it is single-embrasure artillery pillbox No. 117, built for a 76-mm L-17 gun.
        • Both are part of the Izhora Line, which covered the city’s southwest in 1941–1944.
