      Grand Maket and steam locomotives

      ⏱ 5 h🚶 2.5 km + 🚇🍽 2📍 4 stops
      🐢 A little — under 3 km

All of Russia in miniature and a railway museum — with two metro stations between them.

👶 With kids☔️ If it rains
      👶 3–6, 7–12, 13+ years · ✓ stroller-friendly

Get to the Railway Museum by taxi or bus: the metro stations on the way have no lifts. Strollers are allowed into Grand Maket, but at busy times you may be asked to leave yours in the parking area; the lift is for wheelchair users only. The Railway Museum has ramps and a lift to the second level, so a stroller is fine.

        • The model is built at a scale of 1:87 and is second in area only to Hamburg's Miniatur Wunderland.
        • The project's author and investor is the entrepreneur Sergey Morozov; about a hundred people spent five years building the model.
        • The first guests came in April 2011, and the museum officially opened on 8 June 2012.
        • Every 13 minutes day and night change over the model, lit by more than 800,000 LEDs.
        • More than 2,500 m of rails run through the model, with over 2,700 pieces of rolling stock, 250 of them locomotives.
        • The little cars brake at traffic lights and overtake, receiving power remotely from under the model.
        • The museum occupies a two-storey building of 1953 in the Stalinist Empire style.
