        • Gostiny Dvor was conceived as the largest trading building in the Russian Empire; Rastrelli's design was approved in 1757.
        • It was built by Vallin de la Mothe, who kept Rastrelli's layout but dressed the building in early Neoclassical forms.
        • In the 1840s Gostiny Dvor was one of the first buildings in the city to get gas lighting.
        • People came not only to shop: they arranged dates and "accidental" matchmaking meetings here, and Krylov loved to stroll through.
        • In 1966 the department store was visited by around 300,000 shoppers a day.
        • Since 3 November 1967 the vestibule of Gostiny Dvor metro station has been built into the building.

        • The tower, about 47.5 m tall, was built in 1799–1804 on the orders of Paul I; construction was led by Giacomo Ferrari.
        • In 1839 the tower became a link in the optical telegraph line from Petersburg to Warsaw — 1,200 km long, the longest in the world.
        • A signal passed through 149 stations to Warsaw in about 15 minutes; in 1854 it was replaced by an electric telegraph.
        • From the 1850s to the 1920s the tower served as a fire watchtower, with ten firefighters permanently on duty inside.
        • On the night of 26 October 1917 the "Committee for the Salvation of the Motherland and the Revolution" met in the Duma's Alexander Hall.

        • The bridge was built in 1785–1788; to make room for it, the just-completed granite embankments of the Fontanka had to be taken apart.
        • It was first called Ekaterininsky, from 1798 Chernyshev after Count Chernyshev's estate, and received Lomonosov's name on 23 August 1948.
        • It is one of seven standard tower bridges over the Fontanka; only two survive — this one and the Staro-Kalinkin Bridge.
        • The lifting mechanisms were hidden in four granite towers; the chains between the towers are a reminder that the middle span once lifted.
        • In 1912 the Academy of Arts defended the bridge's appearance: reconstruction was approved only if the towers were kept.

        • In the early 18th century the Glukhoy channel flowed here; it was filled in in 1739.
        • The street was divided by Quarenghi's Feather Bed Rows, where bird feathers were sold; they were taken down in 1963 during metro construction.
        • Rusca's portico of 1802–1806 at the corner of Nevsky was rebuilt in 1971–1972 after the rows were demolished.
        • In the 21st century, together with neighbouring Lomonosov Street, it has become home to more than 20 clubs and bars.
