        • The first gate was built in a month in 1814 of wood and alabaster to a design by Quarenghi, to welcome the troops returning from Europe.
        • Stasov's stone gate was founded on 26 August 1827, the anniversary of Borodino, and opened on 17 August 1834.
        • The brick frame is clad in copper sheets; the six horses were modelled by Pyotr Klodt — his first serious work.
        • The gate is over 30 m high and 28 m wide.
        • In 1877–1880 the copper was replaced with iron, and the corrosion only got worse.
        • On 28 February 1917 the gate was set on fire — the city duma archive stored inside burned.
        • In the war the gate received more than two thousand holes and was fully restored in 1949–1951.

        • This is Leningrad's first house of culture: it opened on 7 November 1927, for the 10th anniversary of the revolution.
        • The building was built in 1925–1927 in the Constructivist style to a design by Alexander Gegello and Alexander Dmitriev, with the participation of David Krichevsky.
        • The house of culture received Gorky's name on 8 July 1929.
        • For decades the 2,200-seat hall was one of the city's main concert venues.
        • In 2020 the Leningrad Region bought the building and opened the Palace of Arts in it.

        • The street was named in 1926 in honour of the first tractors produced by the Krasny Putilovets plant.
        • The residential complex was built in 1925–1927 by the architects Gegello, Nikolsky and Simonov; the first buildings were laid down on 8 April 1925.
        • It was the city's first attempt at standardised housing construction.
        • The entrances to the courtyards are marked by half-arches linking the corner buildings.
        • The kitchens were designed with room for bathtubs, but the tubs were never installed.

        • The name means "Catherine's court" in German: Catherine I's wooden palace appeared here in 1711.
        • On 6 May 1703, nearby at the mouth of the Neva, a detachment led by Peter I and Menshikov captured the Swedish ships Gedan and Astrild.
        • Peter's Palace stood for more than two hundred years and was dismantled for firewood in 1926.
        • In 1823 the park was redesigned at the initiative of Count Miloradovich, with pavilions designed by Auguste de Montferrand.
        • Yekateringof is mentioned in the novels Oblomov and The Idiot.
        • From 1948 the park was officially named after the 30th anniversary of the Komsomol.

        • The station opened on 15 November 1955 — the first Leningrad metro train came here.
        • It is the only shallow-level station on the first line: it is 12 m deep and has a staircase instead of escalators.
        • Of the 46 columns, 16 are clad in cast glass with relief — glass was used in the metro for the first time then.
        • The inscription on the pavilion dome first read “Glory to Great Stalin”; now it is about the defenders of Leningrad.
        • In 2014 The Guardian included Avtovo in its list of the 12 most beautiful metro stations in the world.

        • The park was first begun in 1939–1941 as a park of culture and rest, designed by Tatyana Dubyago.
        • During the siege the bodies of the dead were burned at a brick factory on the park's site — by some accounts up to 110,000 Leningraders.
        • The Admiralty Pond is a former factory pit into which the ashes of those cremated during the siege were dumped.
        • Victory Park was founded on 7 October 1945 and opened on 7 July 1946.
        • The “Glasses” pond is marked on pre-revolutionary maps — one of the park's oldest elements.
        • The propylaea of the main entrance appeared in 1957.

        • The building was built in 1936–1941 by a team of architects led by Noy Trotsky.
        • The plan was to move the city government here, farther from the Finnish border, but after the war of 1939–1940 the border moved back and the plan was cancelled.
        • In September 1941 a defence strongpoint with an artillery observation post of the Leningrad Front was set up in the building.
        • The central portico of 14 columns is crowned with a sculptural group by N. V. Tomsky and the coat of arms of the RSFSR.
        • On the east facade a half-rotunda of the assembly hall for three thousand people juts out.
        • The monument to Lenin by Mikhail Anikushin was placed in front of the building in 1970, as planned in the 1936 project.

        • The authors are the architects Valentin Kamensky and Sergey Speransky and the sculptor Mikhail Anikushin, all participants in the defence of Leningrad.
        • The monument was built for the 30th anniversary of Victory partly with public donations — about 2 million rubles were collected.
        • The underground memorial hall opened on 23 February 1978 and is now part of the Museum of the History of the City.
        • The hall is surrounded by a broken ring 40 m across, faced with granite, with the inscription “900 days — 900 nights” on either side of the break.
        • The granite obelisk rises 48 metres.
        • 26 bronze figures of defenders face the Pulkovo Heights, the former front line.
        • Lines by Olga Berggolts were removed from the design for ideological reasons; Yury Voronov's words “O stones! Be steadfast like people!” were cast instead.
