        • The round building follows engineer Georgy Marsakov's ring-shaped bread-baking process: the dough moved in a circle.
        • The factory started work in autumn 1933 and was designed to produce about 290 tonnes of white bread a day.
        • It kept baking bread throughout the Siege, switching from hearth-baked to tin-baked loaves in 1941–1942.
        • In the 18th and early 19th centuries a gunpowder ("zeleyny") factory stood on this site.
        • The architect Alexander Nikolsky, who loved round shapes, is credited with a part in the project.

        • The Karpovka is an arm of the Neva 3 km long and about 20 m wide, between Petrogradsky and Aptekarsky islands.
        • The name is a corruption of the Finnish Korpijoki, translated both as “forest” and as “crow” river.
        • The banks of the Karpovka were faced with granite only in the 1960s–70s.
        • No. 13 is the first residential building of the Leningrad Soviet (1932–1935, architects Levinson and Fomin), a model of Constructivism.
        • In 2021 the sculpture “Sad Angel” appeared by the Medical University, in memory of medics who died of coronavirus.

        • The convent was founded by John of Kronstadt and named after his patron, St John of Rila.
        • The neo-Byzantine building was designed by the diocesan architect Nikolay Nikonov; the foundation was laid in September 1900.
        • The main church was consecrated on 17 November 1902 with Father John taking part.
        • In December 1908 John of Kronstadt was buried here in a white marble tomb in the basement church.
        • In 1926 the entrance to the crypt was walled up and the relics hidden under a concreted floor — they have never been found.
        • In 1989 the convent was returned to the Church as a metochion of the Pühtitsa Convent.
