Rain on Nevsky: DLT, lunch, Galereya

      ⏱ 3 h 30 min🚶 1.3 km + 🚌🍽 2📍 4 stops
      🐢 A little — under 3 km

A route for downpours and cold: the kids' floor of DLT, books in the Singer House, lunch with a kids' room and the warm Galereya mall with mother-and-baby rooms — all indoors, with almost no time outside.

👶 With kids☔️ If it rains
      👶 under 3, 3–6 years · ✓ stroller-friendly

No need for the metro: low-floor buses 3, 7 and 24 run along Nevsky. DLT and Galereya have lifts; at the House of Books there are steps at the entrance — ask security about the platform lift, or skip that stop.

        ✨ DLT department store
        Б. Конюшенная ул., 21–23

Easier to get here by taxi. Take the lift straight to the 5th floor, the kids' one: play area, toys, workshops on weekdays. Almost no one on weekday mornings.

        • The store opened on 7 December 1909 as the trading house of the Guards Economic Society; the chief architect was Ernest Wirrich.
        • Locals nicknamed it the “Guards housekeeper”: officers of the guards regiments got discounts here.
        • The current name, “House of Leningrad Trade” (DLT), stuck to the building in 1935.
        • The site used to hold the “Volkovskiye Rooms” inn, where Glinka and Saltykov-Shchedrin stayed.
        • After renovation DLT reopened on 6 September 2012, and its retail space doubled to 18,000 m².

        • The mall opened on 24 November 2010 and is considered Petersburg's largest shopping centre: 25–27 million visitors a year.
        • In the 1990s a new station for a high-speed line was to be built on this site, but the project stalled because of bankruptcy.
        • In 2012 Galereya was bought by a Morgan Stanley fund for 1.1 billion dollars.
