🏛 Monument to the Good Soldier Švejk

      Балканская пл., 5, к. 7 (у м. «Купчино»)

Russia's first Švejk (2003): he salutes and hides a beer mug behind his back; his nose is rubbed "for luck".

      • The monument was created by the sculptor Alexander Charkin together with D. B. Pakhomov and unveiled on 11 April 2003.
      • The bronze Švejk is 160 cm tall — by design, the hero's "true" height.
      • Originally Švejk stood on a barrel-shaped pedestal 80 cm high.
      • Yaroslav Hašek Street begins at Balkanskaya Square.
