      🏛 Sasha Kondratiev Monument

      Свердловский сад, Свердловская наб.

A monument to a Komsomol member of the Civil War era, after whom Kondratyevsky Avenue is named.

      • The monument was erected in 1958; the sculptor is G. D. Glikman and the architect Yu. Ya. Macheret.
      • Sasha Kondratiev (1900–1918) created the first Komsomol cells on the Vyborg Side — hence the monument here.
      • Surrounded by the Whites, the 18-year-old commissar shot himself rather than surrender.
      • Kondratiev's father helped the sculptor; the figure of the young man in a service jacket with a Mauser is 2.2 m tall on a red granite pedestal.
