      🚶 Palevsky Housing Estate

Санкт-Петербург, кварталы между пр. Елизарова, ул. Седова, ул. Ольги Берггольц и ул. Пинегина

A workers' "garden city" of the 1920s: low-rise houses, arches between buildings and quiet green courtyards — there are no other such estates in the city.

      • The estate was built in 1925–1928 for the workers of Pal's calico-printing factory and neighbouring plants.
      • The architects were Alexei Zazersky and Nikolai Rybin; of the 19 houses, no two are alike.
      • The houses have no basements — foundations were laid straight into the ground, and many residents dug cellars in their apartments.
      • Elizarov Avenue was called Palevsky until 1939, and Olga Berggolts Street was Martynovskaya until 1978.
      • In the 2000s many entrances became separate entrances to apartments — in effect, townhouses appeared.
