🚶 Galernaya Street

A narrow old street parallel to the English Embankment, with mansions and arches leading to courtyards.

The street appeared in the early 18th century as the road to the Galley Shipyard beyond the New Admiralty Canal.
In 1738 it was renamed Isaakievskaya after the church of St Isaac that stood at the start of the street at the time.
From October 1918 the street was called Krasnaya, and its former name was restored on 4 October 1991.
No. 33, the former von Dervis mansion, has housed the Sankt-Peterburg Opera theatre since 1987.
