      • The company dates from Empress Elizabeth's decree of 1756 — Russia's first permanent public theatre, headed by Fyodor Volkov.
      • Rossi's building opened in 1832 and is named after Alexandra Feodorovna, the wife of Nicholas I.
      • Gogol's The Government Inspector (1836) and Ostrovsky's The Storm (1859) were first staged here.
      • In 1841 the theatre held up to 1,700 spectators, with 107 boxes.
      • In the 1920s Vsevolod Meyerhold and Grigory Kozintsev worked here, later Georgy Tovstonogov.
      • In 1937 the theatre was given Pushkin's name, hence its second name, "Pushkinsky".
      • The theatre's New Stage opened on 15 May 2013.
