      🚶 Rozhdestvenskaya Street

      Рождественская ул.

A street in the former Lower Posad by the Volga: apartment buildings and banks of the early 20th century, housing most of the city's bars and restaurants.

      • The street grew out of the towpath — the barge haulers' trail along the Volga, known from chronicles since 1371.
      • It takes its name from the lost Church of the Nativity on the Bechev, known since 1520.
      • The Lower Posad by the quays at the mouth of the Pochaina is one of the first settled areas of the city, along with the kremlin.
      • In the 1920s the street was called Kooperativnaya, and from 1940 to 2001 Mayakovsky Street.
      • In the 1920s it was a center of cooperatives, and in the 1930s–1950s of garment factories and tailoring workshops.
