      🏛 St Nicholas Monastery

      A 16th-century convent on Cathedral Square with the Epiphany and St Nicholas cathedrals.

      • The monastery was founded under Ivan the Terrible in 1580; it was built by Feofilakt Yakovlev of Arzamas.
      • The stone Epiphany Church was built in 1811 on the site of wooden churches.
      • The Great Consecration of the Epiphany Cathedral took place on 28 December 2015.
      • By 2024 the monastery had been fully revived.
