        • The monastery was founded in 1398 at the request of Zvenigorod's prince Yuri Dmitrievich.
        • Under Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich the monastery became a royal country residence: the Tsaritsa's Chambers and a royal palace were built here.
        • The dining hall of the refectory of 1652–1654 covers about 500 m², more than the Kremlin's Palace of Facets (495 m²).
        • There is no ceremonial entrance: from the Holy Gates a staircase runs through the undercroft of the Trinity Church, so the cathedral seems to grow out of the ground.
        • According to legend, in 1812 St Sabbas appeared to Eugène de Beauharnais and ordered him not to touch the monastery, and the French did not plunder it.
        • The 35-tonne Great Bell, shown on Zvenigorod's coat of arms, was smashed in 1941; in the 21st century a new, equally massive one was hung.
        • Episodes of Alov and Naumov's “Flight” were filmed here, and Tarkovsky filmed a little house by a pond for “Solaris” nearby.

        • The skete lies about a kilometre from the monastery: besides the church with the little cave, there is a cell building with a house church of St Nicholas the Wonderworker, and a bathing pool.
        • According to his life story, Sabbas dug the little cave for solitary prayer himself.
        • Sabbas died on 3 December 1407 and was canonised at the church council of 1547.
        • Alexander Pushkin retold the short life of Sabbas of Storozhevsk in the language of his own day.
        • According to legend, Sabbas saved Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich from a bear during a hunt.

        • Zvenigorod is first mentioned in Ivan Kalita's will of 1339.
        • Prince Yuri Dmitrievich made Zvenigorod the capital of his appanage and lived here almost permanently until 1425.
        • The 8-metre ramparts were coated with clay: a 70° slope only needed to be doused with water to become impregnable.
        • The Gorodok was taken by the Tatars, by Tokhtamysh in 1382 and by Edigei in 1408.
        • The cathedral is the first of the four surviving white-stone Moscow churches from the turn of the 14th–15th centuries.
        • In 1918 three icons of the “Zvenigorod Deesis”, attributed to Rublev, were found here; they are now in the Tretyakov Gallery.
        • In 1837 the cathedral's gables were cut down for a four-pitch roof; the restoration begun after 2009 brought back all nine gables.

        • It is the oldest surviving street name in the town: it comes from the Moscow road shown on the plan of 1766.
        • According to a plan of the 1780s a market square was laid out in the middle of the street; its outlines can be guessed from the Military Glory Memorial and the Chekhov Square.
        • The Ascension Cathedral at the start of the street was built in 2007 on the site of a church that had stood here since 1798.
        • The Church of Alexander Nevsky at the end of the street was founded in 1898 in memory of Alexander III.
