      ⏱ 11 h🚶 5.1 km + 🚆🍽 2📍 6 stops
      🚶 Moderate — 3–7 km

By Lastochka train to Klin: a tour of a Christmas-ornament factory with painting your own bauble, the old centre and the house where Tchaikovsky wrote his Sixth Symphony.

👶 With kids🏛 History and architecture🎨 Art☔️ If it rains🚆 Out of town
      👶 3–6, 7–12 years · ✓ stroller-friendly

Leningradsky Station and Klin have high platforms, and the Lastochka has no steps. Around town there are pavements and park paths. In the museums you'll most likely be asked to leave the stroller at the entrance, but in Tchaikovsky's house visitors go through the rooms without one.

        • Klin's Christmas-tree toy craft is considered the oldest in the country; 1887 is traditionally taken as its birth year.
        • The craft's roots are a glassworks of Prince A. S. Menshikov, great-grandson of Peter the Great's Menshikov, opened in 1849.
        • Klin masters began with glass Christmas-tree beads up to four metres long, then moved on to baubles, tiny samovars and figurines.
        • After Christmas was banned in 1929, the glassblowers switched to thermometers and laboratory glassware, and toys came back in 1936 along with the permitted fir trees.
        • The Yolochka factory has refused glassblowing machines and blows its toys by hand, the old way.

        • The Trinity Cathedral was built with townspeople's money from 1802 and consecrated by Metropolitan Filaret on 24 May 1836.
        • The cathedral's single-tier iconostasis was designed by the architect Bove.
        • The cathedral was “cold”: a stove was built in it only in 1891.
        • In 1929 the cathedral was closed and turned into a canteen, the bell tower was converted into a water tower, and after the war it was a house of culture.
        • The cathedral was returned to the Church on 28 November 2008, and in December the bells rang over the square for the liturgy for the first time in almost a century.
        • Klin's oldest church, the 16th-century Dormition Church, stands 400 metres north-east of the cathedral.

        • Tchaikovsky rented this house from the justice of the peace V. S. Sakharov from May 1892.
        • It is Russia's oldest memorial music museum: it received its first visitors on 9 (21) December 1894.
        • The museum was created by the composer's younger brother Modest Ilyich; the house was bought first in the name of Tchaikovsky's servant Alexey Sofronov.
        • During the war German troops looted the museum; footage of the ravaged house appears in the film “The Defeat of the German Armies near Moscow”.
        • The collection holds over 200,000 items, and since 1958 the museum has kept the archive of the history of the Tchaikovsky Competition.
        • The outbuilding has an exhibition about Tchaikovsky's favourite pupil Sergey Taneyev.
